Hybrid WFR-R

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is recognized as the industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, mountain guides, river guides, ski patrollers, and other outdoor professionals responsible for prolonged field care of their clients and friends. This 16-hour module is designed for anyone recertifying their current WFR certification. Content delivery is built around hands-on practical skills, scenarios, simulations, and case reviews.

Topics include, but are not limited to, CPR considerations (when not to start and when to stop), wilderness wound and burn management, assessing patients for spine and head trauma, athletic injuries, addressing fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, patient monitoring and long-term management problems, up-to-date information on environmental emergencies, common simple medical problems, and advice on drug therapies. Emphasis is placed on prevention and decision-making.

All curriculum is based on current industry standards set forth by the WMEC (Wilderness Medicine Education Collaborative) Scope of Practice Guidelines (SOGs).
